Youth Care Support

Located in Albuquerque, NM, Bernalillo Academy is a 63 bed sub-acute residential treatment center that serves youth between the ages of 5 and 17 with a diagnosis of Autism Disorder, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities and Other Emotional and Behavioral disorders.

POSITION SUMMARY

We have immediate openings for Youth Care Support Workers to provide a safe and therapeutic environment for students while implementing structured programming and treatment plans that include teaching skills while decreasing maladaptive behaviors. Youth Care Workers are responsible for data collection, progress note charting, and fostering a strengths-based milieu for students. Bernalillo Academy uses a strength based approach that focuses on learning, practicing, and generalizing skills into more natural environments and intensive teaching to increase skills based on students’ strengths.

Work Schedules
We are a 24 hour facility, and have 3 shifts available.

Job Requirements

Minimum 6 months experience working with children with Autism/severe emotional disturbances/neurobiological disorders, or two years post-secondary education in a Human Service related field is required. Education can be substituted for experience.
• 1-2 yrs experience preferred.
• High School diploma or equivalent required.

Registered Nurse

POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for a Registered Nurse who will provide professional nursing care to patients/students by utilizing the nursing process and skills.  Assist in implementation direct daily care of clients.  Assist other nurses and the Director of  Nursing in providing clinical leadership on the unit as assigned.  The Registered Nurse will receive supervision from the Director of Nursing.  The patient population includes but may not be limited to a specialty group of special needs patients with either cognitive disability, autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays  and behavioral challenges.

Duties include assessment of patient/students upo0n admission and throughout admission to Bernalillo Academy utilizing observational and interviewing skills.  Assist in development of individualized treatment plans in conjunction with patient/student, family and multidisciplinary teams.  Provide direct nursing care based on patient treatment plan, maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu and document on all appropriate clients care topics/events/interventions.  Evaluate and document the patient/student/family response to treatment as related to stated goals and the overall effectiveness of nursing componenets in the treatment plan while promoting the concept and image of professional nursing practice.

  • Must be able to positively interact and develop rapport with children who are developmentally delayed/autistic, their families, professional and support staff, and various levels of staff from community agencies. 
  • Must be able to maintain a calm, non-defensive, supportive attitude during crisis or potential crisis situations.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in the following areas:
    • Manual dexterity to keep documentation records.
    • Able to visually and auditory monitor clients.
    • Demonstrate techniques to prevent behavior harmful to the client or others.
    • Provide behavior management in crisis situations.
    • Assess potential crisis situations and call for assistance if needed.
  •     Current State of New Mexico residency.
  •     Must have current unrestricted nursing license in the state of New Mexico from The  NM Board of Nursing.
  •     Preferred adolescent or children experience in a psychiatric facilty, but not required.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Located in Albuquerque, NM, Bernalillo Academy is a 63 bed sub-acute residential treatment center that serves youth between the ages of 5 and 17 with a diagnosis of Autism Disorder, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities and Other Emotional and Behavioral disorders.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Nursing department at Bernalillo Academy provides for the medical and safety needs of students. Students at Bernalillo Academy often exhibit complex psychiatric and medical conditions requiring 24/7 professional nursing care. The LPN administers medications, coordinates and completes patient care and monitors and documents student health and safety issues.

Qualifications: The candidate must possess a valid unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse License issued by the state of New Mexico State Board of Nursing. Experience in the mental health nursing industry is preferred. Must be able to deliver skilled nursing care in both routine and stressful periods.

Program Overview

Position Overview

We are currently looking for a full-time  Housekeeper who will be primarily responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the residential units, administrative/common areas and the school.  Position to be filled immediately.

Essential Job Duties

Maintains cleanliness of indoor areas including residential units, restrooms, offices, hallways, classrooms and dining area.  Cleans and sanitizes fixtures, floors, surfaces and walls; empties trash and restocks supplies.  Performs other duties as requested.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be at least twenty one years of age.
  • Good verbal and writing skills.

Licensed Clinical Therapist

POSITION SUMMARY                                                                                                    

Provides quality services for children and adolescents, using individual family and group treatment modalities. Assess, diagnose, and treat students with emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues. Provides services in sub-acute residential treatment, community, and school settings. Provides case management, discharge, planning and utilization review. Participates in weekly treatment team meetings. Serves as primary therapist for assigned caseload, formulates individualized treatment plans, and serves as contributing member of multi-disciplinary treatment team. Completes all paperwork (treatment plans, assessment tools, progress notes, etc.) with accuracy and within regulatory timeframes.

  • Provide counseling, therapy to students and families as appropriate.
  • Conduct individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Prepare treatment plans and monitor results to determine effectiveness of treatment.

  • Write evaluations of student for use by courts and testifying in court, if necessary, after receiving a court order and consulting with supervisor.
  • Provide case management and discharge planning to children/adolescents.
  • Provide utilization review.
  • Facilitate communication between parents and the treatment team and physician.
  • Serves as a liaison between Bernalillo Academy and other agencies in the community.
  • Assist Residential Counselors with problem solving.
  • Make visitation and pass arrangements with student and families.
  • Participate in therapeutic intervention and problem solving to include but not limited to emergency services and crisis intervention for children with serious emotional and behavioral disturbances.
  • Document all services provided in a timely manner and according to regulatory requirements.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education : Master's degree in Behavioral Science or related discipline from an accredited college or university.
Experience : 2 to 4 years of experience working with adolescents in a residential setting.

Certificates & Licenses :  Licensure in the state of New Mexico as a LISW, LPCC, or LMFT. CPR and First Aid certification. HWC certified.

Other Requirements:  Ability to interact effectively with co-workers, direct care staff, behavior analysts, medical staff, families, teachers, and other relevant parties in a positive and professional manner. Ability to learn and apply new information, knowledge, and application of ABA procedures outline in treatment plans. The ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations, ability to de-escalate resident/consumer and to complete incident reports as necessary. Ability to accomplish the appropriate tasks as to the age group under supervision. Ability to accomplish the appropriate tasks as to the age group under supervision. Current TB (PPD) test required at time of hire.
